How long is the graduation ceremony at UTK? ›

Each ceremony lasts roughly two to two and a half hours. Graduates are required to return to their seats after their photos are taken to participate in the Alma Mater and degree conferral at the end of the ceremony. Please do not make any plans until after the ceremony is over.

Visit the VolShop website to purchase your regalia (cap and gown). Contact the VolShop if you are unsure about what you should purchase.

If you participated in research in your undergraduate years, you may qualify to receive a cord or medallion to be worn at graduation. There are two levels of recognition: Excellence in Undergraduate Research (cord) and Distinction in Undergraduate Research (medallion). A student may earn both recognitions.

Clear Bag policy in effect

Guests may enter the arena with one clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches. The only other items ALLOWED in the arena: Small clutch purses no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.

Tickets are not required for graduate entry. Graduates will enter the arena at the lower level Media entrance near G-10 garage. Orange and white balloons will mark the entrance. Doors will open for graduate entry 90 minutes before the ceremony start time.

How long is the university-wide ceremony? The ceremony lasts approximately 2 hours.

All regalia may be obtained through the University Co-op. For those earning a bachelor's degree, a black gown and mortarboard are worn. A tassel in the color designated for the specific academic discipline is attached to the mortarboard. A matching stole completes the regalia for bachelor's degree candidates.

Not considered a “suitcase college”. School spirit is huge – they sell out over 100,000 seats at football games. Tailgating is very popular – everyone does it. Excellent marching band!

Yes, graduates usually are allowed to keep their graduation cap and gown as a reminder of their academic success. Ultimately, however, this will depend on the discretion of the institution they are graduating from.

Do cords matter at graduation? ›

Cords can mean different things from academic achievements like cum laude and magna cum laude, or they can signify a sorority or club that you participated in. There are also colored cords for volunteering and community service.

Graduation Honor Cords are typically only for those who have graduated with Honors. If you want one, make sure you study hard and get those straight A's! It's pretty impressive to identify yourself and other classmates as a top-performers.

Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center, located at 1600 Phillip Fulmer Way, will host nearly every UT graduation ceremony. Most ceremonies last about two and a half hours.

If you're wearing a dress or skirt, try to find one with pockets to carry small items such as keys or your cell phone. If you must have a purse, consider a wristlet or small clutch within the bag policy size limits.

Can I Bring My Bag Into Neyland Stadium at The University of Tennessee? Neyland Stadium at The University of Tennessee has a clear bag and purse policy for all events. Bags can be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and cannot exceed 12” X 6” X 12” or one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar).

Typically a graduation party will have one guest of honor with a set timeframe of 2-4 hours and specific guest list. Your guests include immediate family, the graduate's friends, friends' parents, extended family, favorite teachers or coaches from over the years, coworkers of both the parents and the graduate.

UT Ceremony

The University-wide ceremony will be held May 11, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.

At the beginning of the Ceremony, everyone will be asked to stand for the entry of the Graduation Procession. There will be an opening address by the Presiding Officer and, at some Ceremonies, a presentation of a Fellowship or Honorary Degree. The presentation of degrees and diplomas will then commence.

Each ceremony lasts approximately 40 minutes to one hour. Your procession will be seated at the front of the Great Hall and when it is time you will process to the stage and the University Orator will then present graduands individually by name and in the following order: Higher degrees (Doctors, Masters)
